Meditation for Beginners: Start Today

February 21, 2026 • 5 min read

Meditation isn't about emptying your mind. It's about training it to focus. Here's how to start.

Why Meditate?

How to Start

1. Find Your Spot

Quiet, comfortable, free from distractions. A chair or floor works fine.

2. Set a Timer

Start with just 5 minutes. Work up to 10-20 minutes. Don't overcommit early.

3. Focus on Your Breath

Breathe naturally. Notice the sensation of air moving in and out. When your mind wanders (and it will), gently bring it back to your breath.

4. Don't Judge

Thoughts will come. That's normal. The "training" is noticing them and returning to the breath.

Quick 5-Minute Routine

  1. Sit comfortably, spine straight
  2. Close eyes, breathe naturally
  3. Count breaths: inhale 1, exhale 2... up to 10
  4. When you hit 10, start over
  5. When timer rings, open eyes slowly

Start with 5 minutes daily. After 30 days, you'll notice a difference.
